Lesson Plan for Primary One (Age 6)
Subject: Computer
Class: Primary One
Week of the First Term
Topic: Components of System Units
Sub-Topic: CPU, RAM, and Disk Drive
Instructional Objectives
At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
- Identify the CPU, RAM, and disk drive as important components inside the system unit.
- Describe the basic function of each component in simple terms.
- Recognize these components from pictures or models.
Entry Behaviour
Pupils should have a basic understanding of the system unit from previous lessons and be familiar with the concept of computer components.
Instructional Materials
- Textbook: WABP Information and Communications Technology Primary Book 1.
- Visual Aids: Pictures or diagrams of the CPU, RAM, and disk drive.
- Component Models: Real or toy models of CPU, RAM, and disk drive for demonstration.
Reference Materials
- Adewale, J.G., Okoli, E., Aruna, Y., & Abasi, J.E. (2015). WABP Information and Communications Technology Primary Book 1. WABP. Lagos.
Content
Components of System Units:
- CPU (Central Processing Unit): The brain of the computer that processes all the instructions and performs calculations.
- RAM (Random Access Memory): Temporary memory that stores data and instructions currently being used by the CPU. It helps the computer run programs smoothly.
Disk Drive: A storage device that holds the computer’s long-term data and programs. It can be a hard drive (HDD) or solid-state drive (SSD).
