Content
- Who are Computer Humanware?
- Definition: The term “computer humanware” refers to the users of computers and their role in the effective use of technology. Users interact with computers to perform tasks, access information, and communicate.
(ii). Caring for Computer Humanware:
Proper Sitting Posture
- Maintain Ergonomic Alignment: Sit with your back straight and shoulders relaxed. Your feet should be flat on the floor, and your knees should be at a 90-degree angle.
- Adjust Chair Height: Ensure your chair is adjusted so that your elbows are at a 90-degree angle when typing, and your wrists are in a neutral position.
- Use Lumbar Support: Use a chair with lumbar support or add a cushion to support the lower back and maintain the natural curve of your spine.
- Position Screen at Eye Level: Place your computer monitor so that the top of the screen is at or slightly below eye level to prevent neck strain. The screen should be about an arm’s length away from your eyes.
Eye Protection
- Follow the 20-20-20 Rule: To reduce eye strain, every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.
- Use Proper Lighting: Ensure your workspace is well-lit to reduce glare on the screen. Position your monitor to avoid reflections from windows or overhead lights.
- Adjust Screen Brightness and Contrast: Set your monitor’s brightness and contrast to comfortable levels that are easy on the eyes. Adjust text size and screen resolution to reduce strain.
- Consider Anti-Glare Screens: Use an anti-glare screen protector or adjust your monitor’s tilt to minimize glare.
Take Regular Breaks
- Schedule Short Breaks: Take breaks every 30 to 60 minutes to stand, stretch, and move around. This helps reduce physical strain and prevent repetitive stress injuries.
- Incorporate Exercises: Perform simple stretches and exercises for your neck, shoulders, and wrists to alleviate tension and improve circulation.
Use Proper Keyboard and Mouse Techniques
- Positioning: Keep your keyboard and mouse at a height that allows your arms to be in a relaxed position with your elbows close to your body.
- Avoid Overreaching: Position your mouse close to the keyboard to avoid overreaching, which can lead to shoulder and wrist strain.
- Use Ergonomic Accessories: Consider using ergonomic keyboards and mice designed to reduce strain and improve comfort during extended use.
Monitor Environmental Factors
- Control Room Temperature: Maintain a comfortable room temperature to avoid overheating or excessive cooling, which can impact your comfort and concentration.
- Ensure Good Ventilation: Proper ventilation helps maintain air quality and reduces discomfort during extended computer use.
Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and support overall health.
- Exercise Regularly: Engage in regular physical activity to strengthen muscles, improve posture, and reduce the risk of developing musculoskeletal issues.
- Get Adequate Sleep: Ensure you get sufficient sleep each night to help your body recover and stay alert during the day.
