How God delivered Israelites from the Egyptians
In the Bible, God delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt through a series of miracles, culminating in the parting of the Red Sea. A long time ago, the Israelites were living in Egypt. They were slaves and had to work very hard for the Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. They prayed to God to save them from this hard life. God heard their prayers and chose a man named Moses to help them. Moses was a brave and kind man who trusted God. God told Moses to go to Pharaoh and ask him to let the Israelites go free.
At first, Pharaoh refused. He didn’t want to lose his slaves. So, God sent ten plagues to Egypt to show His power and convince Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. These plagues were very strange and scary things that happened in Egypt:
- The river turned to blood.
- Frogs covered the land.
- Gnats (tiny bugs) swarmed everywhere.
- Flies filled the houses.
- The animals got sick.
- The people got painful sores.
- Hail (ice from the sky) destroyed crops.
- Locusts (big grasshoppers) ate all the plants.
- Darkness covered the land for three days.
- The oldest sons of the Egyptians died.
After the last plague, Pharaoh finally agreed to let the Israelites go. Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. They were very happy to be free.
But soon, Pharaoh changed his mind and sent his army to bring the Israelites back. The Israelites were trapped by the Red Sea, with Pharaoh’s army behind them. They were very scared.
God told Moses to stretch out his staff (a big stick he carried). When Moses did this, God parted the Red Sea, creating a path of dry land for the Israelites to walk through. They crossed safely to the other side.
When Pharaoh’s army tried to follow them, the waters of the Red Sea came back together, and the army was swept away. The Israelites were safe, and they sang songs of thanks to God for saving them.
From then on, they were free to travel to the special land God had promised them. They knew that God was always with them, protecting and guiding them.
